Admission Requirements
Linfield College grants admission to students who are likely to grow and succeed in a personal and challenging liberal arts environment. Each applicant to the college is evaluated on individual merit and areas that commonly indicate academic potential. These include high school academic performance, writing sample, recommendations from teachers and counselors and pre-college test results. Because participation in non-academic activities is important at Linfield, the committee also considers the depth and quality of an applicant's involvement in community and school activities.
There is no minimum GPA or SAT/ACT requirement for admission. Priority for admission, scholarships, financial aid and housing will be given to students who meet the priority application deadlines. Opportunities for enrollment of applicants not meeting the priority dates will be dependent on space availability and financial aid funding.
The best preparation for college is a solid academic foundation in high school. Linfield College strongly recommends that applicants have completed the following:
- English 4 years
- Social Sciences 3-4 years
- Mathematics 4 years
- Natural Sciences 3-4 years
- Modern Language 2-4 years

Financial Aid Requirements
Students apply for need-based financial aid by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The priority deadline for FAFSA submission is February 1.
Grants and Loans: Depending on students' financial situations, students may receive grants (need-based awards that are not repaid) or low-interest federally-backed loans, some of which do not start accruing interest until after students graduate. Any student who files the FAFSA will qualify for federal student loans regardless of financial need.
On-Campus Employement: All students at Linfield will be offered the opportunity to work on campus, either through Federal Work Study (need-based) or Campus Employment (non-need-based). Both funding sources provide students with approximately 10 hours of work a week at Oregon minimum wage over the course of the academic year. Students apply for job openings as listed on the Student Employment website.
Scholarships
Scholarship Requirements
Linfield offers a number of renewable scholarships based on academic achievement. Merit-based scholarships are awarded and based on academic qualifications included in the application for admission; no sperate application is required for merit-based scholarships.
Merit-based scholarships are awarded based on high school GPAs and SAT or ACT scores. For additional information regarding merit-based scholarships, refer to our Scholarship Calculator (available at https://www.linfield.edu/financial-aid/prospective-students/fa-calc.html).
An additional option for admitted prospective freshmen is Competitive Scholarship Day. Invited students can participate by sitting for one of 30 subject exams to win a scholarship, ranging from $12,000 - $20,000. Students must complete the application for admission and Competitive Scholarship Day by December 1.
